Best 11 Lego Sets from Super Hero & Fantasy Movies

Hogwarts 2Legos sure have come a long way since we were kids… Check out these 11 geeky lego sets inspired by Super Hero movies, Star Wars, Harry Potter & more!

Let’s be honest: while Legos have always been beyond awesome, they were nowhere near as cool back when we were kids. Sure, every once in a while, fast food joints would offer little Lego movie tie-ins with their Kids Meals, but we didn’t have anything close to what our little geeks have today.

The beauty about picking up one of these (or three of these) Hollywood-inspired Lego sets, is that you’ll have the chance to play with them yourself… under the disguise of play-time supervisor for your kids, of course.

But whether or not you’re craving to relive the childhood you missed out on for being born a few decades too early, your wonderfully geeky kids deserve the chance to own these awesome Lego sets.

Just look at them! How could you possibly say no? To ANY of these?

Spoiler Alert: you can’t. So don’t even try.

Top 11 Lego Sets for Movie Geeks

11. Spider-Man: Daily Bugle Showdown

Spider man lego set

Spidey 2Oh, man, look out: I’m breaking the rules already. This super cool Spider-Man set isn’t related to any specific movie….but that doesn’t mean something like this can’t happen in the future of the new Amazing Spider-man reboot! (Unless FOX retains those Dr. Doom rights…)

But all of these characters have appeared in movies, TV shows or cartoons at some point, so I’m including it anyway.

The set features our titular web-slinger, Dr. Doom, Beetle, Nova, and that loveable curmudgeon of tabloid tyranny J. Jonah Jameson.

There’s an assault on the Daily Bugle and it’s up to our heroes (and your kids!) to save the day. Are they up for the challenge?

I know I sure am.

10. The Avengers: Captain America’s Avenging Cycle

Captain america lego manI did say these were inspired by the movies, right? I did? Oh, good. Now obviously Captain America didn’t have his famous (famous for comic geeks anyway) cycle in the film, but there certainly were plenty of nasty Chitauri to fight!

Here, Cap is pitted against an ugly general and foot soldier of the intergalactic Chitauri army. We know he can kick some alien butt with Stark, the jolly green giant, and Point Break (read: Thor) by his side, but how will he fare on his own?

Let’s kick our imaginations in gear and find out!

9. The Dark Knight Rises: Tumbler Chase

Batman 2Whatever you might think about the finale to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, there’s no denying he was doing some awesome work with Batman, his friends, and his enemies.

This cool Lego set features Batman’s latest super-charged crimefighting car: the Tumbler. But it also comes with The Bat and several roadblocks for you to plow through.

(Ahem… I mean for your kids to plow through… Ahem.)

You also get some kick-butt character figs here, including the Batman himself, Commissioner James “Sirius Black” Gordon, and that mumbly Brit hulk: Bane.

I can see all kinds of Caped Crusader goodness going on with this set!

8. Star Wars: X-Wing Starfighter

XWingThis one (as well as the other Star Wars spacecraft coming up–no doubt you know what that’s going to be!) is awesome for so many reasons, but chief among them is the wicked detail on display here. This is one good-lookin’ X-Wing!

Along with the ship, you also get four character figs, including: Luke Skywalker (with lightsaber!), R2-D2, Jek Porkins, and R5-D8.

There’s also a cool official video about this set for your geeky viewing pleasure.

7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Lair Attack

TMNTHelp Leonardo, Raphael, and Master Splinter defeat Dark Ninja and a FOOT soldier at the turtles’ own lair. The playset is pretty big and offers lots of cool sewer lair details to play with.

It kinda stinks that you can’t cowabunga with Michaelangelo or Donatello, but you can easily pick up those additional figs in another set.

For now, though, you just have to rely on that sacred Turtle Power to get the job done!

6. The Hobbit: Escape from Mirkwood Spiders

Hobbit 2In the book (and no doubt in the upcoming second installment of the Peter Jackson trilogy), one of the best parts is Bilbo and the dwarves fighting their way through Mirkwood and away from the giant spiders who live there.

Our hobbit hero got to display his cleverness and courage in that battle and now so do your little geeks, when they take over the part of the missing Bilbo.

The set features four figs, including Fili and Kili, Legolas, and Tauriel. Weird that there’s no Bilbo, but what are you gonna do?

I’ll tell you what: pick up the Unexpected Gathering play set to go with it!

5. Man of Steel: Superman’s Metropolis Showdown

SupesSuperman takes on General Zod in our hero’s adopted home city in this Man of Steel-inspired Lego set.

It’s a little light on setting (would have loved to see some big ol’ Skyscrapers or even a Daily Planet HQ), but the antenna included does have catapult & collapse functionality which is pretty dang cool.

Can Supes defeat the power-hungry, murderous soldier from another planet? I bet he can, especially when he’s got your little guy or gal on his team!

4. Iron Man: Malibu Mansion Attack

Iron Man

One of the most exciting, if questionably plotted (WHY did Tony give the terrorists his home address again…?), scenes in Iron Man 3 was the assault on our hero’s Malibu home.

Here, you and your kid can relive it again. Maybe even with a more victorious outcome. Who knows?

And surely one of the most fun parts of this set is that it includes a Mandarin fig.

That’s right, you get to have hours of fun creating your own Trevor Slattery dialogue!

3. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Castle

Hogwarts castleThis one is HUGE. And it better be, with its $350 price tag. But seriously, if you’ve got the cash to spare, this Hogwarts play set is bound to be your kid’s very favorite toy, now and forever.

The castle has so many little surprises and nooks and crannies to explore. There’s Dumbledore’s office (with sword of Gryffindor, Sorting Hat, a Basilisk fang, and secret stairs), you have Tom Riddle’s diary hidden away somewhere, and there’s also the Gryffindor common room with the serious visage of Sirius Black in the fireplace.

And with all that, you get a BOATLAD of figs, including: Harry, Hermione, Voldemort, Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, and a lot more.

2. Star Wars: Millennium Falcon

millenium falcon lego set

Falcon 2You totally knew this one was coming, didn’t you? This, folks, is one of the most famous spaceships in the history of history: the Millennium Falcon. When built, this lovely beast can do the Kessel Run in a matter of mere parsecs, no problem.

But that’s not all, folks! It also opens up on top, revealing the cockpit and hull, where your awesome figs can lounge and bicker and train and battle.

But wait, there’s more! Among the figs included are: Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi and… Darth Vader? Wait, how the heck did he got on there?

You think that’s all? You’re wrong! You also get to become the inheritor of lots of fig accessories: three lightsabers, three blasters, and Chewie’s favorite weapon of choice: the crossbow.

Is there more? Only a lifetime of enjoyment. Yep, just that.

1. Back to the Future: DeLorean Time Machine

back to the future delorean time machine lego set

BTTF 2Gotta go back in time? Well, there’s only one way to do that right: ith the suped-up DeLorean from the Back to the Future franchise.

This unbearably awesome Lego set features an excellent DeLorean model with doors that open, wheels that fold under, a flux capacitor, a time travel display, and two OUTATIME license plates.

And you get to go on your historical (and futuristic) adventures with Marty and Doc Brown figs. There might not be a hoverboard in there, but you do get a good ol’ skateboard to cruise around on.

This one, ladies and germs, is about to be added to my collection, just as soon as I check out my Amazon shopping cart. Which…is…happening…riiiiiiiight…NOW.

Do you think your kids will like these awesome movie-inspired Lego sets as much as you and I will? Which ones do you already have and which ones are you gonna get? Time for show and tell!

But just a little unsolicited advice between you and me? If you’re gonna go for a Lego movie play set, you’d probably do well to steer clear of this one:

Prince of Persia

No one’s going to have fun with that…
