Geeks Raising Geeks is not another one of those million tech or gadget or gaming websites. And we are certainly not a parenting website (although we are a community of like-minded parents).
We are helping parents instill the geeky mindset into the next generation. To help geeky parents raise geeky children. Because let’s face it: Being a geek, being able to differentiate yourself and stand out from the crowd, is important in today’s world.
First, what is a geek? A geek in technical terms is someone who used to work in the circus and bite the heads off of chickens.
That’s not what a geek is today.
Today, a geek is anyone that’s passionate about a subject and has extreme knowledge in it. Typically, it’s a topic that is a little nerdy, like Science Fiction or Gaming, but it doesn’t have to be. You can be a Food Geek, a Music Geek or a Wine Geek. Or even refine the geekiness to Northern Italian Food Geek, or D&B Geek, or Sonoma Zinfandel Geek.
But those passions are more challenging to raise your kid with a love of. Kids would prefer a PB&J over the most scrumptious Caponata with Potatoes… The latest bubblegum Pop over an ill beat laid down by an underground DJ… Or grapejuice over a smoky Zin (not that they could legally enjoy one anyways!).
That’s not to say you can’t slowly instill your Geeky love of these passions in your children—you can! And that’s what Geekly Skills are for (Geekly Skills is where we take a facet of geekiness and explore it fully and show you how you can instill that passion in your child).
But for the purpose of Geeks Raising Geeks, we’re focusing on standard passionate fare that we, as parents, feel we can most easily share the joy of with our children:
- Science Fiction & Fantasy, which includes comic books, graphic novels, superheroes and more!
- Film & TV
Ultimately, what it’s about for Geeky Parents is helping your kid discover their passion, sharing in that passion together and loving every minute of it.
We have Sunday Afternoon projects that allow you and your budding geek to explore science, nature, math and various other geeky subjects together. Where you build things with your hands together. Making and creating. Playing and exploring. Helping your kid find his or her passion, become uber-knowledgable on it and rockin’ it out so that they can stand out from the crowd.
We are the one community on the Internet where geeky parents can convene, find awesome geeky gear that they can use in their daily life, learn how to help their children embrace their inner geek and share in all the fun together.
We hope you’ll join us on this journey!
